I was commissioned by the Blue Heron Nature Preserve in Buckhead, Georgia to design and paint this mural. This is the second mural I’ve painted at Blue Heron Nature Preserve, a beautiful natural space in North Buckhead, just north of the heart of downtown Atlanta. This mural was painted on their newly dedicated Field Research Center located off of Land O’ Lakes Drive. The center is used for education, research, and restoration purposes by the Blue Heron Nature Preserve and it’s partner organizations, the Atlanta Audubon Society and The Amphibian Foundation. It currently houses a flatwoods salamander hatchery and a honey bee apiary. It was an honor to be involved in the process of developing this important resource for some of Atlanta’s most important nature-based organizations.
The mural was designed to represent a view of some of the native species found in the canopy at the nature preserve, and also the preserve’s relationship with its partner organizations, the Atlanta Audubon Society and The Amphibian foundation. The native species featured are a Great Blue Heron, Cope’s Grey Tree Frog, American Goldfinch, and American Beech Tree.
