I designed and painted this mural for the Blue Heron Nature Preserve in Buckhead, Georgia, just north of downtown Atlanta. The design features several various species of pollinators and pollinator-friendly flowers native to Georgia, including the ruby-throated hummingbird, sweat bee, carpenter bee, honey bee, purple cone flower (echinacea) and helenium. Most of the reference photos I used in the design were taken in my mom’s garden in Roswell, Georgia.
This was one of my favorite projects to date! The subject matter is very near and dear to my heart. It is meant to educate and encourage a greater stewardship for our natural environment. Planting pollinator-friendly flowers is an easy thing that everyone can do to offset the effects of pollution and habitat destruction. And they’re beautiful, too!
